About the Trophy Dagestan Tur:

The Dagestan Tur is also known as the East Caucasian Tur and is only found in the mountains of Azerbaijan, Georgia, and European Russia. They live between 1,000 and 4,000 feet above sea level in rugged terrain that is a challenge to get to and navigate. They are often found in grassy areas nearby steep escape cliffs. You can expect your billie to be between 8-14 years old, with horns between 30-38 inches.

The Dagestan Tur Hunting Area and Terrain:

The Dagestan Tur hunting area spans 32,000 acres, with the outfitter having exclusive hunting rights to this concession. He has hunted in this area for over 14 years and has strong connections with locals in the area who keep him constantly apprised of the movements of the biggest trophies. The Caucasian mountains in this area are known as some of the steepest and most dangerous mountains in the world, with hunters often having to climb the nearly vertical rock in search of a trophy Dagestan Tur. The outfitter recommends you be in “sheep shape” in order to meet the demanding requirements of this hunt.

Dagestan Tur Hunting Seasons:

The season for Dagestan Tur opens on August 1 and lasts through November 30. However, the outfitter recommends that you plan your hunt between the dates of August 1st to October 31st, as this range provides the best experience, weather, and success rates!

This outfitter has over 12 years of professional experience guiding hunters throughout Russia and Central Asia. He has personally guided dozens of clients to the trophies of a lifetime. The outfitter has extensive knowledge of the local region and has spent years creating close relationships with local chiefs and gamekeepers in his hunting areas, keeping him in the loop of what areas have the most animals and where the most mature trophies can be taken. He is fluent in English, Russian, and French and is present for the entirety of the hunt to ensure clear communication between yourself, your guides, and the local population. He has been successful on over 30 Dagestan Tur hunts and is dedicated to making your hunt a memorable one that results in you harvesting the biggest trophy possible!

Dagestan Tur Camp and Accommodations:

This outfitter utilizes a tented camp for this hunt. The tents are furnished with cots and sleeping bags. In camp, you can expect your cook to serve traditional hearty Russian food. There is no internet service available in camp, however, cell phone service is available. Having a satellite phone is highly recommended as well if you wish to stay in contact with those back home.

This outfitter is dedicated to your comfort during your hunt and will work tirelessly in ensuring all your needs are met while you are staying in camp.

A Typical Day Hunting Dagestan Tur

In the late months of summer, sunrise is at 6 AM. You can expect to wake up around 5 AM to begin the day and begin preparing for the hunt. Warm clothing is a must, as you can plan to be outside the entire day. After having breakfast and coffee with your guide and discussing the plan for the day, you travel out of camp. As soon as you leave camp, you will begin spotting animals and assessing the quality of the billies. Once a shooter is spotted, you will begin your stalk to get within shooting range on foot. Your approach can consist of a lot of walking and bouldering, and the outfitter recommends using strong wooden climbing sticks to help you keep your balance while hiking over this type of rough terrain. These sticks are the same ones used by the locals when they navigate this terrain and are prefered over traditional hiking sticks. Once you’re within a comfortable shooting range you will work to get a good angle and position on the animal before taking the final shot!

Dagestan Tur Trophy Care and Shipping:

The taxidermy and dip and pack of your trophy will be taken care of by Stolker Trophy Co. in Moscow. The field preparation of the trophies is done in camp by salting the hides and boiling the skull. From there, it takes about 10-20 days for your trophy to be delivered to Stolker Trophy Co. The client is responsible for all shipping charges of the trophies from the camp to the taxidermist, and all expenses afterward. According to the outfitter, the average cost of trophy preparation and shipping to your point of entry is $1,200 (2021 estimate), excluding customs broker and final leg ground shipping.

Rental Rifle:

The available rifle is a Remington Model 700 chambered in 300 Win Mag, topped with a Zeiss Diavari-Z 2.5-10x48 scope. Rifle rental cost is $400 for the entire hunt and ammunition cost is $3 per round.

If you plan to bring your own rifle, the outfitter recommends rifles chambered in either 7mm Remington Mag or 300 Win Mag for hunting Dagestan Tur.

From Moscow, you will then fly direct on a domestic flight to either Vladikavkaz (OGZ) or to Makhachkala, the capital of the Dagestan Republic. If you fly to Vladikavkaz, it is then a 40-minute drive to camp. If flying to Makhachkala, it is a several-hour drive to camp.
