This is an exceptional value for a luxury 5-star Cape buffalo hunting safari in South Africa's beautiful Waterberg Mountains. Designed around one of Africa's legendary Big Five animals, this package gives hunters the opportunity to pursue a mature Cape buffalo while enjoying first-class accommodations, outstanding hospitality, and professional guiding throughout the safari. Whether you are traveling alone or bringing a companion to experience Africa alongside you, this package offers one of the finest combinations of luxury and dangerous game hunting available in Limpopo.

The Cape Buffalo Safari Area

The hunting location for this 5-star Cape buffalo safari will take place in South Africa's Limpopo Province in the beautiful Waterberg Mountains. The 5-star hunting lodge is located approximately a 3-hour drive north of Johannesburg on a privately owned 10,000-acre reserve featuring three luxury lodges. This area has earned an outstanding reputation for producing exceptional Cape buffalo while offering hunters an unforgettable luxury safari experience.

The Waterberg region is made up of rolling mountains, open savanna, thick bushveld, and rocky ridgelines that provide ideal habitat for buffalo. The varied terrain allows hunters to track fresh spoor through dense cover while using natural terrain features to carefully stalk into shooting position. The reserve is professionally managed to maintain excellent trophy quality while providing hunters with an authentic South African dangerous game safari.

Trophy Cape Buffalo Hunting Methods

Cape buffalo hunting is one of Africa's classic dangerous game experiences. Each morning begins shortly after sunrise as your Professional Hunter and trackers head into the concession to locate fresh buffalo spoor. Once tracks are found, the pace slows considerably as the hunting team carefully follows the buffalo through thick bushveld while continually monitoring the wind and surrounding terrain.

Buffalo are highly intelligent and rely heavily on their sense of smell and hearing, making patience and careful movement essential throughout the stalk. As the distance closes, your Professional Hunter will use the available cover to position you for a safe, ethical shot. Opportunities often develop quickly, requiring calm shot placement and clear communication between the hunter and hunting team.

Each evening concludes back at the lodge where hunters can relax, enjoy outstanding South African cuisine, and discuss the day's hunt while preparing for the following morning.

About the Cape Buffalo

The Cape buffalo is one of Africa's legendary Big Five animals and has earned a worldwide reputation as one of the continent's most respected dangerous game species. Mature bulls are recognized by their massive horn bosses, heavy body size, and exceptional toughness. Their unpredictable nature, combined with their ability to disappear into surprisingly thick cover, has made them one of the most sought-after trophies in Africa.

Buffalo typically live in herds, although older bulls often separate into small bachelor groups or become solitary "dugga boys." They rely heavily on their excellent hearing and sense of smell while moving confidently through dense bushveld. Pursuing a mature Cape buffalo is regarded by many hunters as one of the most rewarding dangerous game experiences Africa has to offer.

In addition to Cape buffalo, there are many exceptional plains game trophies available on these concessions. Pricing for additional plains game animals, along with select dangerous game species, may be viewed via the link below.

And don't forget, because you are booking this package through Discount African Hunts, you will receive an additional 10% off of the trophy fees for additional animals you shoot that are not in the package!

The Companion's Program

One observer is included free of charge with this safari package. While hunters are in the field, companions may participate in a variety of activities designed to showcase the beauty and culture of South Africa.

The companion's program includes a variety of activities, from game drives, guided walks, visits to nearby reserves and national parks, shopping excursions, sightseeing, and other activities arranged by the lodge. Companions are also welcome to accompany the hunter for portions of the safari if they wish, making this an outstanding package for couples and families traveling together. See below for the most up-to-date list of activities offered under this program.

Getting There

Hunters will arrive at O.R. Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg, South Africa, where they will be met by a representative of the outfitter. From the airport, guests are transferred by road approximately three hours north into the beautiful Waterberg Mountains of Limpopo Province.

No charter flights are required, and all airport transfers associated with the package are included.

Taxidermy

Professional field preparation begins immediately following each successful harvest to ensure the highest possible trophy quality. Capes are carefully skinned, fleshed, salted, and prepared before being transported to the outfitter's on-site taxidermy and dip & pack facility.

Recommended Firearms

A quality rifle chambered in .375 H&H Magnum or larger is recommended for this Cape buffalo hunt. Premium soft-point or bonded bullets are strongly encouraged to provide the penetration and reliable performance needed for ethical shots on dangerous game. Hunters choosing to bring their own firearms should ensure they are comfortable shooting from sticks, as this is the most common shooting position during the safari.

Typical shooting distances range from 40 to 100 yards, depending on the terrain, vegetation, and the buffalo's movements. Rifle rental is available for $25 per day for hunters who prefer not to travel with their own firearm.

The Hunting Season

This safari is available throughout the entire year.

The Best Time to Hunt

This safari is available throughout the entire year. The prime months for Cape buffalo hunting generally run from May through September, when cooler temperatures make tracking more comfortable and buffalo remain active throughout the day. During the dry season, animals often travel predictable routes between feeding and water sources, creating excellent opportunities for traditional tracking and spot-and-stalk hunting.

Deposit Policy

A 50% deposit is required to confirm your booking. The remaining balance is payable prior to the completion of the safari.

Cancellation Policy

Deposits are non-refundable. Hunts may be rescheduled with sufficient notice, subject to availability and the outfitter's current scheduling policies.

EXCLUSIONS: International airfare, taxidermy, dip & pack, shipping of trophies, gratuities, personal purchases, premium alcoholic beverages outside the standard package, and any items not specifically listed under THIS HUNT INCLUDES.

"I booked a plains game hunt in South Africa through Discount African Hunts.  The price was half of what other outfitters were selling the same package of animals for.  After being assured by John Martins that this offer was for real I went ahead and booked.  Everything turned out just like I was told and I took 7 beautiful trophies on the trip of my lifetime.  Don't let the low prices hold you back.  I am sure I will never take a hunt of this quality again at a price like I paid. My hunt was awesome!"
