This small cat grand slam night hunt for Africa’s small cats will take in South Africa’s Limpopo Province on a 74,000-acre concession.  This renowned South African outfitter has put together an amazing discounted package hunt for all of the small cats that can be hunted in South Africa today.  For those of you that want to get these animals on one safari, this outfitter can get it done.  They specialize in some of the rarer specialty animals and have good populations of these highly sought-after trophies.

The African Small Cat Hunting Area

The hunting location for this nighttime small cat grand slam hunting safari will take place in South Africa's Limpopo Province. The 30,000-hectare hunting concession is a 2.5-hour drive north from Johannesburg’s O.R. Tambo International airport.  A 3-star lodge will be your headquarters for this nighttime hunt.  The ranch is situated near the town of Vaalwater.  This large concession is well known for the quality hunting that it produces.

The African Small Cat Hunting Lodge

You will be staying at a 3-star lodge that features individual thatched-roof chalets with comfortable beds and in-suite bathroom facilities.  The lodge is scenically situated across a lagoon from the chalets and the client chalets are connected to the lodge by a bridge over the lagoon.  The food, wine and service at this lodge are a great example of what makes South African hospitality famous.  Meals are served three times daily and are customized to a client’s particular taste.  The majority of hunters want to eat some of the local game and the kitchen staff will be happy to show you their flair at preparing venison in a variety of tasty dishes.

Since you will be primarily hunting at night, the meal schedule will be adjusted to accommodate the hunting hours. This lodge features daily laundry service, an attentive camp staff, first class sleeping accommodations and has everything required to make it easy to recuperate from a hard night in the bush.

The lodge features permanent electrical power.  Cell phone service and internet are available in camp.

African Small Cat and Nocturnal Animal Hunting Methods

Hunting methods for this nighttime small cat hunting safari will consist of multiple methods.  One method will be to hunt at night from blinds over bait piles that are monitored by trail cameras. The trail cameras allow the PH to determine which baits are being hit nightly by the targeted species and get an idea of the times the animal is coming in to feed.  A size assessment can also be made from good trail camera pictures.  Infa-red shooting lights and FLIR may also be used to up your odds of success

Honey badger, genet and civet are known to frequent bait sites, so there is a good chance that you will do some of your hunting by using this method.

Trophy CaracalTrophy Genet

Another method that will be utilized is to drive around spotlighting for these nocturnal animals.  Spotlighting can be especially effective for serval, caracal, civet, and genet, so that method will likely be used when hunting these animals.

The serval prefers areas with cover such as reeds and tall grasses and proximity to water bodies, such as wetlands and savannahs.  They are hunted on old river beds and marsh areas on this hunting concession.

This hunt is available from March through November, with March-May and September being especially good times for this hunt.

There are also some exceptional plains game trophies on this concession.   This area of Limpopo is known for producing trophy kudu, so you might want to do a little daytime hunting as well.  Plains game prices may be viewed via the link below:

Most hunters will overnight in Johannesburg at the Afton Guest House and then will fly to Polowowane the next morning..  After you arrive you can settle in and sight in your rifles in preparation for the first night's hunt.

You will spend quite a bit of time either in a blind or riding while spotlighting at night.  Winter nights can be very cold, so be sure to bring a warm jacket, hat, hand and ear coverings and maybe even some toe warmers.  A good pair of insulated underwear will also come in handy!

A good scope that is clear and has a wide field of vision is important when night hunting.  Often these animals will freeze for a few seconds when the spotlight beam hits them.  The ability to quickly find them in your scope is an important aspect of this hunt.  A good pair of binoculars will also aid you in judging your trophies.  Quality optics are a big aid on this type of night hunt.

Both the outfitter and myself recommend that you bring your animals home for mounting. Should you wish to have your animals mounted in Africa, contact me for recommendations.

If a safari is cancelled more than 365 days prior to the commencement of the safari, all payments made to date, less 5% administration fee and all expenses already incurred, will be refunded.  If cancelled between 180 – 365 days prior to the commencement date of the safari, a 50% refund of all payments made to date and all expenses already incurred, will be made.  If a safari is cancelled within 180 days prior to the commencement of the safari, no refund will be made, unless a substitute can be provided for the exact contracted period that has been cancelled.  The safari may be rescheduled for a subsequent date, subject to the outfitter’s discretion and available dates. "I spent weeks visiting websites for outfitters in Namibia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe, comparing pre-made packages and regular fees. In the end, for a 7-day, six animal hunt with my son as an observer/hunter, John Martins had the best price."

"Best advice I can give is don't let the word DISCOUNT scare you. I was skeptical but I have hunted all over and I can tell you these trips are top notch! Everything was described accurately, no surprises. I took 9 trophies - almost every one made gold medal. I would highly recommend John Martins and Discount African Hunts. I already have another trip booked with them and I am looking at 2 more. I got everything I wanted and saved thousands doing it!"

"I booked a plains game hunt in South Africa through Discount African Hunts.  The price was half of what other outfitters were selling the same package of animals for.  After being assured by John Martins that this offer was for real I went ahead and booked.  Everything turned out just like I was told and I took 7 beautiful trophies on the trip of my lifetime.  Don't let the low prices hold you back.  I am sure I will never take a hunt of this quality again at a price like I paid. My hunt was awesome!"
