This Cull Hunting Safari offers hunters the opportunity to experience an authentic South African plains game safari while assisting with the responsible management of wildlife populations on a large private concession in Limpopo. The hunt takes place on a 19,500-acre property near Musina and combines high-volume hunting opportunities with a traditional African safari atmosphere. Hunting is conducted using spot-and-stalk methods, glassing, and careful shooting from natural positions throughout diverse bushveld terrain.

This safari is ideal for hunters looking for plenty of trigger time, excellent practice in real African hunting conditions, and the opportunity to harvest multiple species during a single trip.

 

The Hunting Area in Limpopo

The hunt takes place near Musina in South Africa’s Limpopo Province on a private 19,500-acre concession that has been carefully managed by the outfitter for more than two decades. This region is classic northern Limpopo bushveld, made up of dense mopane flats, thornveld, rolling hills, rocky ridges, and scattered mountain terrain that create excellent habitat for a wide range of African wildlife.

One of the defining features of the property is the Sand River system that winds throughout the concession. Along the riverbanks, thick riverine vegetation, large trees, and dense brush create shaded travel corridors heavily used by nocturnal predators and other wildlife species. These thicker areas provide ideal habitat for animals such as civet, genet, honey badger, bushpig, and other nighttime species that rely on heavy cover and river systems for movement and protection.

Further away from the river, the bush opens into wider mopane flats, broken hillsides, and rocky terrain that support healthy populations of plains game. The combination of dense river systems, rugged ridges, and open bushveld creates a diverse and authentic African safari environment with excellent wildlife numbers and varied hunting conditions throughout the concession.

 

The Cull Hunting Methods

Each day begins before sunrise with coffee and breakfast at the lodge before heading into the concession while temperatures are still cool and wildlife is most active. The mornings are usually spent glassing, tracking, and stalking animals on foot through the bushveld.

Because this safari focuses on management and cull animals, you can expect a more active style of hunting with opportunities at multiple animals throughout the day. Depending on the species and conditions, hunts may involve stalking through riverine habitat, watching waterholes, or moving slowly through bushveld and open feeding areas.

Midday is generally spent back at camp relaxing during the warmest part of the day before heading back out during the late afternoon when animal movement increases again. Evenings are spent enjoying dinner, drinks, and stories around the fire after a productive day in the bush.

 

About the Animals

This safari focuses on a combination of management and cull animals that are selected to maintain a healthy population balance and strong overall herd genetics across the concession.

Impalas are one of the most common and widespread antelope species in southern Africa and provide fast-paced hunting opportunities due to their abundance and constant movement throughout the bushveld. Kudus are one of Africa’s most iconic plains game species and are highly respected for their sharp senses and ability to disappear into thick cover.

Blue wildebeest are durable and resilient animals often referred to as the “poor man’s buffalo” due to their toughness and unpredictable behavior. The nyala are typically found in thick riverine habitat and dense brush along the Sand River system, where they rely heavily on camouflage and cover for protection. Baboons also make for a fun game species, as they provide an additional challenge due to their intelligence, elevated vantage points, and excellent eyesight. Their cautious behavior and constant awareness make them surprisingly difficult animals to approach successfully.

The Cull Hunting Lodge

You will stay in a luxury rustic lodge located on the banks of the Sand River. The lodge combines an authentic African safari atmosphere with modern comfort and overlooks prime wildlife habitat where animals are frequently seen moving through the river systems.

The lodge features six en-suite chalets with private bathrooms, air conditioning, permanent electricity, and Wi-Fi access. Guests can relax in the lounge area, enjoy drinks at the fully stocked bar, or cool off in the infinity pool overlooking the surrounding bushveld. Meals are freshly prepared daily and served in a relaxed safari setting, with evenings often spent around the campfire discussing the day’s hunt.

Trophy Handling

After harvest, trophies are transported to the outfitter’s private skinning facility, where field preparation begins immediately. Capes and hides are carefully skinned, fleshed, salted, and prepared to preserve quality before transportation to the taxidermist or dip & pack facility.

Each animal is tagged and documented throughout the preparation process to ensure proper identification. Trophy transportation to the local taxidermist is included, with delivery typically occurring within approximately one month after the safari.

Getting There

Hunters will fly into Polokwane Airport in South Africa. Upon arrival, you will be met by the outfitter or a member of their staff and transferred by road to the hunting area near Musina in Limpopo Province. No charter flights are required.

 

The Hunting Season

This hunt runs from mid-July through the end of August. Anytime during this time is good hunting, as there are cooler temperatures, thinner vegetation, and increased daytime animal movement.

 

Recommended Firearms

The outfitter recommends rifles of .308 caliber or larger fitted with quality optics. Quality expanding bullets are recommended for ethical harvests.

For bow hunters, a minimum draw weight of 55 pounds is recommended.

Typical shots range from 80 to 250 yards, depending on terrain and vegetation.

Deposit Policy

A $2,000 deposit is required upon booking to secure the safari. The remaining balance may be settled upon arrival.

 

Cancellation Policy

Deposits are non-refundable for cancellations made within 9 months of the safari start date. Hunts may be rescheduled at the outfitter’s discretion based on availability and current pricing.

Any rescheduled hunt is subject to a $150 administration fee paid directly to the booking agent.
