This hunt for two Cape Buffalo cows takes place in the Northwest Province and is the most affordable way to hunt Cape Buffalo in Africa an affordable price. This is by far the best price in Africa. These cow hunts are just as exciting as any other dangerous game hunt in Africa, and at a fraction of the price of a bull! Cape Buffalo cows usually have a wider spread than bulls do, and taking home a pair of their horns can be quite the trophy!
About the Cape Buffalo Cow:
The Cape buffalo cow is a large, heavy-bodied member of Africa’s Big Five. While she doesn’t have the thick horn boss of a mature bull, she still sports sharp, curved horns along with a wide spread. Adult cows typically weigh between 900 and 1,200 pounds and live in tightly knit herds that provide safety in numbers. They’re extremely alert and quick to react to danger, making them a challenging quarry for any hunter.
A buffalo cow hunt offers all the thrill of dangerous game hunting in the same terrain and under the same conditions as a bull hunt—but at a fraction of the cost. These hunts still require solid marksmanship and nerves of steel!
The Cape Buffalo Cow Hunting Areas:
This exciting double Cape Buffalo cow hunt takes place on large concessions ranging from 8,000 to over 12,000 acres in size. These expansive properties offer plenty of room for herds to move naturally and provide a challenging, fair-chase experience. The hunt is primarily conducted on foot, using tracking and spot-and-stalk methods to locate the herd. For those with mobility limitations, accommodations can be made to ensure a safe and successful hunt without sacrificing the experience.
Buffalo cows are highly alert and typically move in tight-knit groups, making them difficult to approach. The terrain where the herds tend to stay in and around is often dense bush. These cows are nearly always in herds and many with calves, so sneaking up close to sort out an older, mature female without being spotted is always an exciting endeavor! Your professional hunter will guide you into a position where you can make a clean, ethical shot, often at close range. While these hunts take place inside fenced concessions, the fences are rarely seen. This is an adrenaline-filled, dangerous game hunt, ideal for hunters looking to take on Cape buffalo without the premium price tag of a bull.
The Cape Buffalo Cow Hunting Lodge:
The hunt takes place from a comfortable, well-appointed 3.5-star lodge. Guests stay in private chalets that each include two comfortable beds, en-suite bathrooms, and spacious showers for convenience and privacy. The lodge is equipped with modern amenities, including heat pumps that provide cooling during warmer months, ensuring a pleasant stay year-round.
Wi-Fi and cell phone access is available throughout the lodge, allowing you to stay connected if needed. The meals here are very good and are sure to satisfy. After a full day in the field, hunters can unwind in the outdoor lounge area featuring a welcoming fireplace and pool, perfect for sharing stories and relaxing under the African stars. The lodge staff are attentive and experienced, and are committed to making your safari comfortable and memorable.
Other Animals Available on this Double Cape Buffalo Cow Hunt:
If you harvest your buffalo cow early in the hunt, there are plenty of additional opportunities to continue hunting. These concessions have exceptional kudu, sable, roan, and klipspringer trophies. More common plains game trophies also reside on these concessions and are trophy grade.
Rental Rifle and Recommended Calibers:
Rifle rental is $120 for the duration of this hunt. This outfitter has many different calibers, makes, and models to choose from for this hunt.
If bringing your own rifle, recommended calibers for this hunt are as follows:
Cape Buffalo Cow
Cape Buffalo cows are dangerous game in Africa. The minimum caliber is .375, and bigger calibers are always better!
Plains Game
A minimum rifle caliber of .30-06 is recommended, up to a .375 caliber. The .375 caliber makes for a great all-around rifle in the bush, as solids are readily available for the .375, which can be used for taking the smaller animals of Africa without doing much damage to the trophies.
Getting There:
You will fly into Johannesburg, South Africa, and be picked up by your PH. You will then drive approximately 2 hours to the lodge where the Cape Buffalo cow hunt will be based. No overnight lodging in Johannesburg should be necessary, as long as your flight arrives between 7 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
Deposit Policy:
A 30% deposit to book this hunt and reserve dates is required. The balance of the safari is due in cash, by credit card (Visa and MasterCard), or by wire transfer before departing camp.
