Get ready for a bow hunt of some amazing animals in the middle of the Kalahari! This outfitter is an avid bowhunter himself as well as the owner of a local bow shop, and has made sure each blind is in the perfect spot to ensure you get the cleanest shots! With a FREE observer included, this is one deal you should not pass up!

About the Bow Hunting Package Animals:

This bow hunt package includes three trophy examples of Africa’s most quintessential plains game: the blue wildebeest, the warthog, and the Impala. With each of these animals, you will be able to take the best trophy that presents itself. The blue wildebeest is tough, with accurate shot placement being key to a successful hunt. An encounter with a wounded wildebeest can lead to a heart-pounding and adrenaline-fueled moment! These trophies can weigh up to 600 pounds and have average horns between 26-28 inches. The Impala is another one of Africa’s most popular animals, being a medium-sized antelope that prefers to run in herds. You can expect your trophy to present horns with an average of 22-24 inches. Lastly, the warthog is also included in this package and is one of Africa’s most well-known animals. They are covered in bristly hairs, and you can expect your trophy warthog’s tusks to average over 10 inches and weigh between 150-300 pounds!

The Hunting Area and Terrain:

The hunting area is in the North-West province of South Africa, close to the Botswana border. The concession is 8,000 acres and is high-fenced, as it is sometimes also used for lion hunting. Lions will not be present during your plains game hunt. The terrain is a savannah, with different parts being grass, brush, and large acacia trees. Being in the Kalahari, the naturally sandy soil lends itself to easy tracking of animals and allows for easy walking through the bush. The concession is semi-desert and has no natural water. There are seven artificial waterholes located around the area, and each has a blind set up between 20-30 yards from the waterhole. There are 7 ground blinds as well as portable tree stands. The treestands provide excellent vantage points to assess trophy quality as well as observe other plains game and native birds that travel to the area for water. The ground blinds offer more comfort and better concealment for those that prefer shooting horizontally at their quarry.

Hunting Seasons:

This hunt is available anytime between March 1st and October 31st, with April through September being the best times. It is highly recommended to book this bow hunt during a dark moon, as it is during this lunar cycle that bow hunts yield the best results.

About the Outfitter:

This outfitter has been in the hunting industry since 1995 and has over 26 years of expertise in traditional African hunting. He is a dedicated bowhunter himself and was the prior owner of a bow shop. He specializes in both dangerous game and plains game hunting and is based in a beautiful remote area that is very safe and disease-free. He is dedicated to your comfort the entire time and will work to accommodate whatever needs that you may have during your hunt. The success of your hunt is paramount, and he will work tirelessly to make your hunt both a memorable and successful one!

Bow Hunting Lodge and Accommodations:

This 3-star lodge features chalets with en-suite bathrooms. The chalets are outfitted with a combination of queen and twin-size beds, small sitting areas, and bathrooms complete with both stand-alone showers and bathtubs. Each chalet has its own individual heat pump that can both heat or cools the room and holds the temperature based on your preference. Comfortable beds finish off the experience and provide a great night's sleep after a long day hunting.

The main lodge consists of a bar, dining area, lounge, and trophy room. The food is very good and is served family-style from a buffet bar. A beautiful large open space greets you upon entering with trophies displayed throughout. Cell phone and internet service is available here. The patio is connected to the main lodge and that is where the traditional evening fire is built. Because the area is remote with little light pollution, stargazing from the patio is a client favorite.

A Typical Day Bowhunting:

After waking up and getting ready in your private and temperature-controlled chalet, you will start with a light breakfast and coffee in the main lodge. After breakfast, the hunting day begins! You will discuss the best blind to hunt that day, and afterward will be taken there to start the morning hunt. Depending on your preferences, you can come back to camp midday for a lunch break, or a packed lunch can be arranged for you to take to your blind so you can sit continuously throughout the entire day.

Once your trophy animal is seen, you’ll line up your shot and let an arrow fly! Once you shoot your animal, your trackers will come to join you in tracking and locating your trophy. Depending on the animal and the shot placement, you and your PH will make a careful approach to your trophy! After you’ve gathered your pictures and bragging rights, your animal will be loaded up and taken back to camp to be prepared for taxidermy or dip and pack. You can continue hunting until sunset, upon which you will be transported back to camp. Once you arrive, you’ll be greeted by a warm inviting fire, drinks, and a fantastic meal, helping to prepare you for the hunt again tomorrow!

Other Available Animals:

This concession also offers an abundance of giant eland, which are an amazing prize but smart and difficult to hunt, along with a great number of gemsbok. The concession also offers animals on the following Trophy Fee list.

Trophy Care and Shipping:

Your animal will be skinned and put in salt, then will be delivered to the taxidermist or dip and pack facility within 2 weeks after the completion of your hunt. The outfitter will review dip and pack or taxidermy options with you before transporting your trophies.

Getting To The Bow Hunt Lodge:

You will first fly to Johannesburg, South Africa. From Johannesburg, it is a 6-7 hour drive to the lodge. If you arrive early in the morning, no arrival day lodging will be needed, and the outfitter will meet you at the airport and drive you to the hunting lodge. If you arrive in the late afternoon or evening, it is recommended that you stay overnight at the Afton Safari Lodge. You will be met by the Afton staff and transported to the nearby Afton Safari Lodge guest house. After a hearty breakfast, your outfitter will meet you and drive the 6 hours to the hunting lodge. Once you arrive at the hunting lodge, you will be greeted by the lodge staff, settle in and begin preparing for the next day’s hunt!

Deposit and Payment Policy:

A $1,000 deposit is due to book this bow hunt. The full balance must be paid either by prewire, US cash, or credit card (3% fee) at the end of the hunt.

Cancellation Policy:

Deposits are non-refundable. A safari can be rescheduled once subject to availability if the outfitter is notified at least 60 days in advance of the hunt. Safaris that are rescheduled are subject to a $150 Admin Fee to be paid directly to the booking agent prior to new dates being finalized. Hunts moved to a subsequent year are subject to that year's pricing. Travel insurance can be obtained to cover unexpected illnesses.

Testimonials

"I booked a plains game hunt in South Africa through Discount African Hunts.  The price was half of what other outfitters were selling the same package of animals for.  After being assured by John Martins that this offer was for real I went ahead and booked.  Everything turned out just like I was told and I took 7 beautiful trophies on the trip of my lifetime.  Don't let the low prices hold you back.  I am sure I will never take a hunt of this quality again at a price like I paid. My hunt was awesome!"

"I looked long and far for a good deal on a lioness hunt.  By far, Discount African Hunts had the best price.  I had the hunt of a lifetime and took a beautiful lioness at close range with my bow.  The Professional Hunter was first class, the lodge was first class and my whole experience was unbelievable.  I will book with John Martins when I return to Africa to hunt leopard  in Zimbabwe.

"I had the hunting experience of a lifetime. And I have a real need to go back. I made many new friends from South Africa, Australia and the USA.

I strongly recommend both Discount African Hunts and this outfitter. John Martins set me up with a great outfitter, answered all my questions and made sure I had all my paperwork in order A to Z."
