This night hunt for Honey Badger, Genet and Civet will take South Africa’s Limpopo Province on a 55,000 acre concession.  This renowned South African outfitter has put together an affordable package for the hunter that wants to collect some of these nighttime specialty animals.  For those of you that want to get these animals on one safari, this outfitter can get it done.  He specializes in some of the rarer specialty animals and has good populations of these sought-after trophies on the concessions that he hunts.

The Honey Badger and Civet Hunting Area

The hunting location for this nighttime specialty animal hunting safari will take place in South Africa's Limpopo Province. The 25,000 hectare hunting concession is less than a 1-hour drive north of Polokwane.  A 4-star lodge will be your headquarters for this nighttime hunt.  The ranch is situated in the Soutpansberg Mountains and  this large concession is well known for the quality hunting it produces.

The Specialty Animal Hunting Lodge

You will be staying at a 4-star lodge that features comfortable beds and in-suite bathroom facilities. The lodge also features a scenic pool for the use of hunters coming in the early or late seasons. The food, wine and service at this lodge are a great example of what makes South African hospitality famous.  Meals are served three times daily and are customized to a client’s particular taste. The majority of hunters want to eat some of the local game and the kitchen staff will be happy to show you their flair at preparing venison in a variety of tasty dishes.

Since you will be primarily hunting at night, the meal schedule will be adjusted to accommodate the hunting hours. Daily laundry service, an attentive camp staff, first class sleeping accommodations and beautiful vistas makes it easy to recuperate from a hard day in the bush.

The lodge features permanent electrical power.  Cell phone service and internet are available in camp.

Honey Badger, Civet and Genet Hunting Methods

Hunting methods for this nighttime animal hunting safari will consist of two primary methods.  One method will be to hunt at night from blinds over bait piles that are monitored by trail cameras. The trail cameras allow the PH to determine which baits are being hit nightly by the targeted species and get an idea of the times the animal is coming in to feed.  A size assessment can also be made from good trail camera pictures. Your honey badger and genet will most likely be hunted by this method.

This outfitter utilizes a live camera system that allows the bait sites to be monitored 24 hours a day from the hunting lodge.  You can actually watch the bait sites while you are eating or relaxing at the lodge!

The other method that will be utilized is to drive around spotlighting for these nocturnal animals. Spotlighting can be especially effective for civet, and that is the likely way that this animal will be hunted.

This hunt is available from March through November, with the winter being the preferred time (June-Sept). There are also some exceptional plains game trophies on this concession.  Plains game prices may be viewed via the link below:

GETTING THERE

Most hunters will overnight in Johannesburg at the Afton Guest House and then take a short flight to Polokwane the next morning. The PH will pick you up at the Polokwane airport and transport you on a short one hour drive by vehicle to the hunting concession, where you can settle in and sight in your rifles in preparation for the first night's hunt.

TAXIDERMY

You will have the opportunity to visit a local  taxidermist before you head home. They will also handle your dip and pack and shipping should you wish to ship your trophy to your taxidermist in the US.

Testimonials

"First, I wanted to tell you the buffalo hunt with the outfitter you booked me with was great! The PH took me to a farm where there was a good herd of buffalo and I shot a 40” old dagga boy. I could have taken another one a bit wider, 42”, with hard bosses but he did not have that old rough beat-up look I was after."

"Best advice I can give is don't let the word DISCOUNT scare you. I was skeptical but I have hunted all over and I can tell you these trips are top notch! Everything was described accurately, no surprises. I took 9 trophies - almost every one made gold medal. I would highly recommend John Martins and Discount African Hunts. I already have another trip booked with them and I am looking at 2 more. I got everything I wanted and saved thousands doing it!"

"I would recommend this hunt although I would recommend John at Discount African Hunts even more. Areas can get hot and cold but John always knows the hot spots to send hunters."

"Totally recommend!"
