This 14-day free-range leopard hunt takes place in the remote Bushmanland region of Namibia on an exclusive hunting area encompassing approximately 2.4 million acres. There are no high fences, and the safari takes place in genuine free-range wilderness where leopards move naturally across an enormous landscape of Kalahari sands, broadleaved woodland, acacia country, and more arid thornveld. The sheer size and remoteness of this concession are what make this one of the most unique leopard hunting opportunities available in Namibia.
Your safari is conducted 1×1 with an experienced professional hunter, with the entire hunt focused first and foremost on leopard. Pre-baiting and baiting are included, and extensive preparation is done to maximize your opportunity before and during the safari. The package includes fourteen full hunting days, two travel days, one FREE observer, luxury tented camp accommodations, meals, beverages, licenses, permits, airport transportation, trophy fee, and field preparation.
About the Leopard Hunting
This area is known for excellent Leopard quality and an extremely low hunting pressure. Only four leopards are on quota across approximately 2.4 million acres each year, providing an extraordinary amount of country for each available tag. This outfitter reports a 100% success rate since beginning to hunt this area and describes the region as producing large, mature cats with distinctive yellow facial coloration.
Because of the enormous size of the concession and the limited number of hunters moving through it, leopards in this region encounter very little human pressure. Cats regularly move naturally through the area and may visit bait during daylight hours. Your PH and hunting team work extensively throughout the safari to identify productive areas, maintain baits, monitor leopard activity, and ultimately focus attention on mature trophy cats.
This is not an easy hunt. Baits may be positioned several miles apart, and a considerable amount of country must be covered each day. That scale is also what makes the hunt so rewarding, providing a true free-range leopard safari in one of Namibia’s largest and most remote hunting areas.
The Leopard Hunting Area in Bushmanland
The hunt takes place in the Bushmanland region of Namibia within one of the country’s largest conservancy areas. The primary hunting area lies in the Otjozondjupa Region and borders the Nyae Nyae Conservancy to the east. This is remote San community country characterized by vast distances, very low human density, and expansive natural habitat.
Much of the terrain consists of relatively flat Kalahari sand country covered by broadleaved woodland and acacia vegetation. A neighboring hunting area offers a somewhat different environment, becoming more arid with increased thorn-tree cover and less Kalahari sand. Together, these areas provide an enormous variety of habitat for free-ranging leopards and other native wildlife.
The hunting concession encompasses approximately 2.4 million acres and is completely free-range. The area is exclusive for the hunt and has been hunted by this operation for approximately 16 years.
Free Range Leopard Hunting Methods
A typical day begins early in the morning with you and your PH heading out to check leopard baits. Because the hunting area covers approximately 2.4 million acres, some bait locations are a considerable distance from camp, and a normal day can involve covering large amounts of country while checking tracks, bait activity, and signs of mature cats.
Pre-baiting and baiting are included as part of the safari. Baits are positioned throughout productive areas of the concession and may be several miles apart. Your PH will use bait activity, tracks, trail information, and knowledge of individual areas to determine where mature leopards are moving and which locations deserve the greatest attention. Brunch is often enjoyed in the bush while checking the more distant portions of the concession, with the hunting team continuing through the afternoon before returning to camp later in the day. Throughout the safari, the leopard hunt remains the primary focus.
Once a mature leopard begins consistently using a bait, the hunt becomes increasingly focused on that particular cat and location. A blind will be built, and you and your PH will work to pattern the leopard and be positioned in the blind once it comes back to feed.
About the Namibia Leopard Outfitter
This outfitter has hunted this Bushmanland concession for approximately 16 years and specializes in remote, free-range African hunting. Their approach to this Leopard safari centers on extensive preparation, careful bait placement, hard work in the field, and keeping the entire hunting team focused on producing the best possible opportunity for you.
The operation reports a 100% success rate on leopards since beginning to hunt this area. With only four leopards on quota across approximately 2.4 million acres each year, the emphasis is on quality rather than volume. The enormous hunting area, limited human pressure, and extensive preparation required to manage baits across such a large landscape make this a highly specialized safari.
The Luxury Bushmanland Tented Safari Camp
You will stay in a luxury tented safari camp with private en-suite bathroom facilities. Sleeping accommodations feature two three-quarter-size beds, providing a traditional African safari-camp experience while maintaining a comfortable standard of lodging in an exceptionally remote location.
The camp is powered by a generator and has both cell phone service and internet access. Despite the remoteness of the hunting area, you can remain connected when needed while still enjoying the atmosphere of a traditional tented safari camp.
All meals are included throughout the safari along with beer, wine, and spirits. The camp serves as your base between long days checking baits and traveling through the concession, providing a comfortable place to eat, relax, and prepare for the following day’s hunt.
Additional Hunting Opportunities
The concessions are managed primarily for leopard and large trophy elephant. Limited plains game quotas are also available, although the enormous size of the hunting area and relatively low game densities can make plains game hunting more challenging than on smaller properties.
Additional species may be hunted according to current quota availability and the applicable trophy fee price list.
Trophy Handling and Care
After your leopard is harvested, the trophy will be field-prepared and transported for the required veterinary and quarantine process. Leopard trophies normally remain in quarantine for approximately one to two months depending on veterinarian availability.
Once released from quarantine, the trophy is transported to the local taxidermist (Caspers Taxidermy)in Grootfontein. The normal time required for the trophy to complete quarantine and reach the taxidermist is approximately two months, although this can vary.
Taxidermy
Dip & pack, taxidermy, and international trophy shipping are not included in the safari price. The outfitter normally works with Casper’s Taxidermy in Grootfontein for trophy handling after the required quarantine period.
Getting to Bushmanland
You will fly into Windhoek, Namibia, where you will be met and transported by road to the hunting area. Round-trip transportation between Windhoek and Bushmanland is included in the safari price, and no charter flights are required.
Bushmanland is extremely remote, with the nearest small town approximately 150 miles from the hunting area. Once you arrive in camp, transportation throughout the concession is handled as part of the safari.
Arrival day and final-night lodging are included. Separate before- and after-hunt accommodations are not required as part of the safari package, depending on the time of arrival in Windhoek. Those hunters arriving late in the afternoon or in the evening should plan on overnighting in Windhoek..
The Leopard Hunting Season
This free-range leopard hunt is available from March through November.
The Best Time to Hunt
The outfitter recommends March through August as the preferred period for this Leopard safari.
Recommended Firearms and Rental Rifles
The outfitter recommends a .300 Winchester Magnum, 7mm Magnum, or larger for this hunt.
Rental rifles are available in .300 Winchester Magnum and .375 H&H.
Rifle rental is $75 per day. Hunters planning to rent a firearm should advise the booking agent in advance so the appropriate rifle and ammunition can be arranged.
Deposit Policy
A 50% deposit is required to book this safari. The balance of the hunt, except for $4,000, is due two weeks before the safari. Accepted payment methods include check and wire transfer.
Cancellation Policy
The deposit is non-refundable if the safari is cancelled less than six months before the scheduled arrival date unless a replacement hunter is found.
For dangerous game hunts, the trophy component of the safari will be refunded if no animal is available to hunt. If you are provided with an opportunity to take the trophy and miss or choose not to utilize that opportunity, no trophy-fee refund is applicable.
If you reach the end of the scheduled Leopard hunt without success, the outfitter also allows you to extend the hunt or return during the same year, subject to their stated policy, without an additional hunt charge.
A $150 fee is payable directly to the booking agent for any rescheduled hunt. Hunts moved to a subsequent year will be subject to that year's pricing.
EXCLUSIONS: International airfare, before and after hunt accommodations if required, additional hunting days, additional observer fees, rifle rental, ammunition, dip & pack, taxidermy, trophy shipping, gratuities, and personal expenses.

August 2014
"In August 2014 I took a lioness hunt with Discount African Hunts in the Northwest Province of South Africa. The PH's worked hard to customize the hunt for me as I wanted a challenging stalk ending with taking the lioness at close range by an open sighted double rifle. They exceeded my expectations as 12 miles of tracking ended with me shooting the highly agitated lioness at a distance of 25 yards with a couple of rounds of 450 NE".
"I highly recommend a lioness hunt with Discount African Hunts."
