Plains Game Hunting in Cameroon

The Savanna plains game species are distributed above the rain forest in Cameroon into West Central Africa. Most of the animals on this hunt will be hunted by driving in the truck until animals are spotted. If after glassing them, there are suitable trophies present, a stalk will be initiated on foot. Red river hogs are basically forest animals but are found in the savanna in low concentrations along the rivers. If hunting for red river hog, you will be placed in a strategic location and the trackers will attempt to drive the animals to you.

The primary method of hunting plains game on the savanna is by using the vehicle to spot these animals and then stalking them on foot. These animals are typically found in pairs or groups, so extra caution is necessary to avoid detection.

THE SAVANNA PLAINS GAME HUNTING SEASON

The Savanna Plains game season runs January – April

The Savanna Plains Game Hunting Area

The Savanna Plains game hunting area consists of two adjacent blocks totaling over 600,000 hectares. The area has lots of wells, a substantial aquifer, and rivers that provide water for game year-round. This constant supply of water keeps game in this area throughout the year.

The terrain is a combination of hills and valleys covered by savanna forest and big open grass areas. The tall grass is burned before each year’s hunting season to increase the new grass shoots and to increase visibility.

THE SAVANNA PLAINS GAME HUNTING LODGE

"This was our first time to Africa and it was incredible. We were able to harvest all the animals on our wish list and they were fantastic quality trophies.  I would recommend this hunt as you are only about 2 hours from Johannesburg. Thanks to Discount African Hunts we connected with an awesome outfitter and took some great trophies!."

"I spent weeks visiting websites for outfitters in Namibia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe, comparing pre-made packages and regular fees. In the end, for a 7-day, six animal hunt with my son as an observer/hunter, John Martins had the best price."
