THE MAASAILAND AREA

This is your chance to hunt some of Tanzania’s unique species in the famous Maasailand area  and also take a trophy Cape buffalo if you so desire. The hunt will take place in Maasailand and will be a safari that is similar to the ones taken in the past by Earnest Hemmingway and Robert Ruark. The terrain is generally flat but the rivers and drainages present small hills, bottom areas and lookouts. The plains game hunting area is vast and encompasses 490,000 acres. There are many Maasai people in the area and the game mixes with their cattle as they have for thousands of years.

There are several great touring options that are easily added to this hunting safari. The Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti  Plains to name just a couple of options.  Or perhaps a climb to the top of Mt. Kilamanjaro?

This is a cultural experience as well as a great hunting safari!

THE MASSAILAND PLAINS GAME SAFARI

The PH has had a great success rate hunting exotic plains game over the last several years.  His clients take fully mature plains game trophies at significantly lower prices than offered by other outfitters in Tanzania. The well-maintained vehicles will be used to locate game on the vast Maasailand plains. Once your quarry has been spotted, you will proceed to stalk them on foot. You will walk from 2-8 kilometers a day while hunting plains game in this region of Tanzania.  If you decide to hunt a Cape buffalo, you will use the vehicle to cut fresh buffalo tracks and then will proceed to track them on foot in the traditional manner.

Cape buffalo are on license for this hunt and may be added at any time by just paying the trophy fee.  A list of species available to be taken during this hunt is detailed below:

THE MAASAILAND CAMP

Although this is a wilderness hunt, you will stay in a 4-star tented camp. The lodging will consist of large East African style tents with in-suite shower and toilet. The tents will feature large single or double frame beds and mattresses with clean linens and blankets. The tents also feature windows, rugs and complete floors. Laundry will be done daily and the service staff is on call at all times. Electrical power is provided by a generator. Internet and cell phone service is not available in camp. A satellite phone is available in camp in case of emergencies.

Food will consist of 3 course dinners, picnic lunches and made-to-order breakfasts. Bottled water, non-alcoholic beverages are all available and included. The outfitter will stop at a liquor store vif you want alcoholic beverages. You can import one bottle of liquor into Tanzania duty free. A waiter, butler and daily laundry service will be provided for your comfort and convenience.

THE MAASAILAND OUTFITTER

The outfitter has been hunting professionally in Africa for 27 years. He is very hands-on and personally conducts many of the hunts. His other PH also has been hunting dangerous game for several years and both are highly experienced plains game hunters.  You can not be in better hands when hunting in a remote area than with this outfitter. The equipment is well-maintained and the staff is well-trained.

DIP AND PACK

This hunt requires the purchase of a 21 day license even though the hunt duration is 10 days.  Dip and pack costs ate based on the license and expected numbers of trophies that will be taken. Because most clients will marvest a large number of plains game species on this hunt, the dip and pack cost is $2,000.  If only a select number of trophies (<5) will be harvested, a lesser amount may be possible.

GETTING THERE

You will take KLM airlines into Kilimanjaro International Airport. Your PH will meet you at the airport in Kilimanjaro, where you will be driven an hour and 15 minutes to Arusha. If you flight arrives in the morning, you may continue on to the hunting camp. If you arrive later in the day, you will overnight in a hotel ($150-$350) in Arusha and wake up the next morning and drive 3.5 hours to the hunting concession in Maasailand.  An overnight stay in Arusha may also be necessary on the day of departure from camp.

So what are you waiting for?  Isn’t it about time that you put a Grant’s Gazelle, Gerenuk and Lesser Kudu in your trophy room at the best possible price?
