The Sable Hunting Area

Your hunt for Sable in Zambia will occur on a privately-owned 12,000-acre reserve located on the Zambezi Plateau in southern Zambia, 30 km east of Kalomo Town.  This private hunting reserve was developed over 10 years ago and now boasts over 160 head of sable. The area consists of pristine miombo woodlands, forests, and thickets.

The Zambian Sable Hunt

Your sable hunt will occur on a private reserve of 12,000 acres. A typical hunting day will begin by driving to an area that sables tend to frequent and then getting out and scouting on foot until a suitable sable bull is spotted. Then you will proceed to stalk to within comfortable shooting range of the sable and hopefully, your sable trophy bull will soon be in the salt!

Flights

You will need to book your flight from your home country to Johannesburg (O.R Tambo international airport). From there you will need to book a connecting flight to Livingstone (Harry Mwanga Nkumbula international airport) Zambia. The outfitter recommends booking with South African Airways as it allows for the transportation of rifles. Persons under the age of 18 traveling to and from South Africa need additional documentation!

Rifle Transport

Standard legislation pertaining to the carriage of weapons and ammunition for each destination will apply. Passengers entering South Africa with onward international flights may have their firearms and ammunition checked through to their final destination. Be aware that such firearms and ammunition may be blocked by airport baggage screening staff for inspection, which will require the airline to page each passenger to proceed to a designated baggage reconciliation area, where you will be required to open any bags containing ammunition for inspection. Please ask to have your rifle checked directly to Livingstone (Harry Mwanga Nkumbula International Airport) Zambia.

Visa Requirements

Visas are required for most passports. Most visas can be purchased at the airport or border in United States Dollars cash. Keep a flight or tour itinerary and / or copy of air ticket handy. The outfitter will send you a letter stating you will be hosted by them in Zambia.

"I spent weeks visiting websites for outfitters in Namibia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe, comparing pre-made packages and regular fees. In the end, for a 7-day, six animal hunt with my son as an observer/hunter, John Martins had the best price."
