This 7-day plains game safari takes place partly over 40,000-50,000 acres of free-range hunting area, and a 13,000-acre high-fence managed area in northeastern Namibia near Grootfontein. The package is conducted 1×1 and includes the trophy fees for six classic African plains game animals: Kudu, Burchell’s Zebra, Gemsbok, Blue Wildebeest, Warthog, and either Duiker or Steenbok. All of the animals, with the exception of the Blue Wildebeest, are found in the free-range concession. With a diverse selection of species included in one package, this hunt provides an excellent introduction to traditional Namibian plains game hunting while also appealing to experienced African hunters looking to add several quality trophies during a single safari.
The concessions have been under the same ownership and hunting rights for more than 30 years. Hunting pressure is carefully managed, and the area is exclusive to the operation’s own clients, helping maintain strong and healthy game populations. The property combines bushveld, open savanna, and deep sandy soils that are particularly well suited to traditional tracking and walk-and-stalk hunting.
About the Plains Game
This safari brings together several of Namibia’s most recognizable plains game species, each offering a different hunting experience. Kudu are famous for their ability to disappear into thick bush despite their large size, while Oryx are powerful, desert-adapted antelope known for their striking markings and long, straight horns. Blue Wildebeest are heavy-bodied herd animals requiring careful trophy selection and shot placement, and Burchell’s Zebra combine excellent eyesight with strong herd awareness that can make a successful stalk challenging.
Warthog, Duiker, and Steenbok add further variety to the hunt. Warthogs are frequently encountered around open feeding areas, water sources, and sandy tracks, while Duiker and Steenbok favor smaller pockets of brush and natural cover. Because the package includes animals ranging from small antelope to large plains game, you can expect a variety of hunting situations throughout the safari rather than concentrating on a single species or hunting method.
The Plains Game Hunting Area in Namibia
The free-range hunting areas cover approximately 40,000-50,000 acres in northeastern Namibia near Grootfontein. These are exclusive free-range properties with no high fence and consist of a diverse combination of bushveld, open savanna, and deeper sandy soils characteristic of this part of the country. The 13,000-acre high-fence concession is located near the same area and is where the Blue Wildebeest trophy will be hunted. The operation has held the ownership and hunting rights to the concessions for more than 30 years, allowing the wildlife and hunting pressure to be managed over the long term.
The sandy terrain makes tracking especially productive because fresh animal tracks can often be clearly identified and followed. The combination of open country and thicker bush also creates varied hunting opportunities, whether following tracks through the sand, glassing open areas for a mature trophy, or using natural vegetation and terrain to approach animals on foot. The area is particularly known for quality Kudu and Eland, and their high fence also supports strong populations of Wildebeest, Gemsbok, Impala, Blesbok, and other plains game.
Plains Game Hunting Methods
A typical hunting day begins at approximately 6:00 a.m. with a light breakfast at camp before heading into the hunting area with your professional hunter. The cooler early-morning hours are often among the most productive times of the day, and you will begin by driving through selected areas while carefully scanning the bush and looking for movement, fresh tracks, and other signs of the species being hunted. Once promising spoor is located, you and your professional hunter will leave the vehicle and continue tracking on foot, using the wind, vegetation, and terrain to close the distance.
At approximately 10:00 a.m., you will normally return to camp for brunch before concentrating on waterholes and other productive areas as temperatures rise. Around midday, you will return to camp for lunch or refreshments and a rest during the hottest part of the day. The afternoon hunt generally begins around 3:00 p.m., when you will again search the hunting area for suitable animals. Once a potential trophy is spotted, your professional hunter will evaluate the animal from a distance and plan the approach before beginning the stalk. As daylight fades, you will return to camp for dinner and a relaxed evening at the lodge.
About the Outfitter
This family-run operation has held the ownership and hunting rights to the area for more than 30 years and places a strong emphasis on personal service, genuine hospitality, and carefully managed hunting pressure. The area is exclusive to its own clients rather than being operated as a high-volume commercial hunting property, allowing your professional hunter to tailor the safari around your individual goals and spend the necessary time tracking, evaluating, and pursuing the animals you came to hunt.
The limited hunting pressure also plays an important role in maintaining healthy wildlife populations and strong trophy quality. The operation reports particularly good quality among its larger plains game, especially Kudu and Eland, while also maintaining excellent numbers of several other commonly hunted Namibian species.
The 3-Star Namibia Hunting Lodge
Hunters stay in a comfortable 3-star main lodge consisting of three private chalets, each furnished with two beds and its own bathroom and shower. The accommodations include air conditioning, hot water, permanent electrical power, cell phone service, internet access, and daily laundry service, providing a comfortable base between hunting sessions.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served daily in the lodge dining room, and beer, wine, and spirits are included. Arrival day lodging and the overnight stay following the final hunting day are both included, so no separate accommodations are required as part of the safari itinerary.
Additional Hunting Opportunities
Free-range additional species: The free-range, low-fence concessions support quality populations of Kudu, Gemsbok, Eland, Giraffe, Dik-Dik, Klipspringer, Duiker, Steenbok, Warthog, and Zebra. Additional opportunities for these species may be available depending on current quotas, trophy availability, and the applicable price list.
High-fence additional species: All other species not listed above that are on the outfitters' price list are available on the 13,000-acre managed high-fence concession.
Trophy Handling and Care
Field preparation of your trophies is included. Each animal will be skinned according to your preferred mounting requirements and the hides will be properly salted at camp. Transportation of the prepared trophies from the hunting area to a local taxidermist or dip-and-pack agent is also included as part of the safari.
Trophies are normally delivered to the taxidermist or dip-and-pack facility within approximately seven days after the hunt. From there, they can be prepared for taxidermy or processed for international shipment according to your instructions.
Taxidermy
Dip-and-pack services, taxidermy, and international trophy shipping are not included in the hunt price. A local professional taxidermist is available to handle trophies after they leave camp, whether you choose to have the animals mounted in Namibia or prepared for export to your preferred taxidermist at home. This outfitter currently uses Caspers Taxidermy.
Getting to Namibia
You will fly into Hosea Kutako International Airport, where you will be met for the included road transfer to the hunting area near Grootfontein. The drive from the airport to camp takes approximately five hours and provides an opportunity to relax after the international flight while traveling through the changing Namibian landscape toward the hunting grounds. Depending on your arrival time, a stop may be made along the way for refreshments, lunch, or a short break.
No charter flights are required for this safari. Airport pick-up, drop-off, and road transfers are included, along with arrival day lodging and the overnight stay following the final hunting day.
