This plains game package includes some of Africa’s most recognizable plains game animals, and there is no better outfitter to take them with than right here. This outfitter specializes in cultivating some of the best plains game trophies in the country. You can expect all your trophies to be of excellent quality when hunting here!
About the Plains Game Animals in the Package:
The kudu is one of the continent’s most iconic trophies. Bulls carry long, spiraling horns and are known for their ability to vanish into thick cover, giving way to their nickname, the grey ghost. Blue wildebeest are tough, stubborn, and challenging to bring down. while the blesbuck favors open plains where longer shots and careful stalks are often required. Impala and warthog are common sights. Impalas are most often found in herds, while warthogs are found solo or in small groups.
The concession is ripe with trophy-quality examples of all these animals. The outfitter has worked for decades to carefully cultivate this concession for big trophies and high-end examples. His kudu, especially, are some of the best examples in the province. Alongside these package animals, the concession is also abundantly populated with other quality trophies such as his buffalo and his nyala.
The Plains Game Hunting Area and Terrain:
This 12,000-acre hunting concession is located in South Africa’s Limpopo Province, just outside of Alldays near the Botswana border. The property features a diverse mix of classic bushveld, with stretches of thick cover where game can disappear in an instant, wide open grasslands that make for excellent spotting and long stalks, and large tracts of low shrubs and tall trees that dominate much of the terrain.
Rolling hills add a change of elevation, while riverine belts weave through parts of the concession, creating natural game corridors. This combination of habitat types provides excellent conditions for a wide range of plains game species and ensures that you will experience different stalking techniques and hunting scenarios throughout your safari.
Hunting Seasons for Plains Game:
This hunt is able to be booked year-round. If you are on the hunt for the largest kudu possible, coming during the months of March-September is recommended, as the bush tends to thin out a bit and there is a better chance of being able to spot a huge trophy! The cooler months also tend to see more animal movement into the afternoons, which also lends itself to a better chance of finding the one!
About the Plains Game Package Outfitter:
For over a decade, this outfitter has been providing hunters with exceptional safari experiences in South Africa’s Limpopo Province. Their staff truly creates a welcoming atmosphere where everyone feels like part of the family. They have a strong reputation for professionalism and attention to detail, and they have a strong base of hunters who choose to return time and again to hunt with them.
The hunting concession itself is expertly managed to sustain a healthy population of quality game, ensuring that each safari offers excellent opportunities for quality trophies. Emphasis is placed on producing top-class trophies, with the outfitter’s skilled PHs guiding every step of the way. The lodge itself is well-kept and very comfortable, featuring attentive staff, luxury meals, and all the amenities you need to relax after a long day in the field. This outfitter consistently delivers hunts that exceed expectations at an outstanding price point. Their dedication to trophy quality and client satisfaction shines through in every aspect of the safari, making this a hunting experience I can confidently recommend.
Lodge and Accommodations:
You’ll be staying at the outfitter’s 3.5-star lodge on this hunt. It is a very comfortable lodge and features an ensuite bathroom, A/C, and power in all the rooms. There is both solar and generator backup in case of any blackouts or brownouts in the permanent power electrical grid.
There is full cell phone and internet service here at the lodge. The kitchen here produces incredibly delicious food and drinks, and is one of the best parts of the lodge. The lodge staff are also great and keep the place spotless. They are helpful and are happy to go out of their way to assist in anything you may need during your stay.
A Typical Day Hunting Plains Game in South Africa:
Your days in camp start early, most often with waking up before sunrise. A small breakfast and hot coffee set the tone for the morning, where you and your PH will talk about the plan for the day. After eating and getting ready, you’ll climb into the hunting vehicle with your PH to begin the morning hunt! You’ll start by driving around and glassing the plains, thickets, and riverbeds. Early mornings are some of the most productive times in the field, when the animals are frequently on the move. With your PH’s guidance, you’ll evaluate animals and decide which are worth attempting a stalk.
Once a suitable trophy is spotted, the hunt becomes up close and personal. The vehicle is left behind, and you and your PH will slip into the bush on foot, using wind, cover, and terrain to close the distance. Each species requires its own strategy—whether it’s sneaking up on the sharp-eyed kudu, outsmarting the stubborn wildebeest, or moving quickly before a warthog bolts. When the range is right and your PH gives the signal, it’s up to you to steady yourself and make the shot.
A well-placed bullet marks the end of the stalk but the beginning of the recovery. Skilled trackers and skinners quickly move in to retrieve and prepare the animal, transporting it back to camp, where the hides will be skinned and salted for taxidermy. By midday, you’ll return to the lodge for a full meal and a chance to rest during the heat of the day. The afternoon hunt brings a fresh opportunity as the sun begins to dip, when you will again head out in search of your remaining trophies. Once the sun sets, it’s back to the lodge for an excellent dinner, laughter around the fire, and the glow of the African night sky before turning in to prepare for the next day’s hunt.
Other Available Animals:
There are many other great animals to take if you have the chance, either during or after your spiral horns hunt! These species below are all able to be found in trophy quality here on the concession!
Trophy Care and Shipping:
Your animal will be skinned and put in salt after harvesting. Splitting Image will pick up your skins about 30 days after your safari ends.
Rental Rifle:
Rifle rental cost is $100 for the entire hunt, and ammunition costs $200 per box.
Depending on your PH, the outfitter has these rifle calibers available to rent:
- 375 H&H
- .308
- 30-06
- 7x64
If you plan to bring your own rifle, the outfitter recommends calibers in the .300s and above, such as a .300, .30-06, .308, and .375.
Getting There:
You will first fly into Johannesburg and, depending on the time of your arrival, either fly directly to Polokwane or stay overnight in the African Sky guest house and fly out the next morning. There, you'll meet the outfitter in the arrivals hall and begin your 2-hour trip to the hunting lodge. If choosing to come from Johannesburg, it is a 5-hour drive to the lodge and a $400 round-trip charge. Once you arrive, you will be greeted by the lodge staff and begin preparing for the next day’s hunt!
Deposit and Payment Policy:
A 30% deposit is due to book this hunt. Full balance must be paid either by US cash, wire transfer, or credit card (3% fee) at arrival, with any extra animals paid at the end of the hunt.
Cancellation Policy:
Deposits are non-refundable. The outfitter may allow a safari to be rescheduled once if requested a minimum of 90 days in advance of the start of the safari at the sole discretion of the outfitter. Rescheduling a hunt for the subsequent year is subject to that year's price list. Any rescheduled safaris are subject to a $150 administration fee to be paid directly to the booking agent. Travel insurance can be obtained to cover unexpected illnesses. A Travel Policy is strongly recommended when traveling to remote areas in foreign countries.
Exclusions: International airfare, domestic airfare, road transfer from Johannesburg, rifle rental, ammunition, rifle importation costs, shipment of trophies to taxidermist, taxidermy, international shipping of trophies, insurance, gratuities

"Best advice I can give is don't let the word DISCOUNT scare you. I was skeptical but I have hunted all over and I can tell you these trips are top notch! Everything was described accurately, no surprises. I took 9 trophies - almost every one made gold medal. I would highly recommend John Martins and Discount African Hunts. I already have another trip booked with them and I am looking at 2 more. I got everything I wanted and saved thousands doing it!"
