This is a great highly discounted bow hunt for the South African Spiral Horn Grand Slam.  This incredible bow hunting safari will take place in South Africa’s Eastern Cape 2 hours north of Queenstown. The outfitter is well known in South Africa and has a great reputation with the many hunters who have experienced the incredible hunting this concession offers.  You will primarily hunt 55,000 acres (126 sq., miles) of prime habitat that has well over 10,000 animals residing on it.  With South Africa having the greatest plains game populations on the African continent, you will be hard pressed to find a better place to hunt the spiral horned antelopes than here. The diversity of animals on this concession is simply amazing!  Over 70 species of animals inhabit this game-rich concession.  Many exotics have also been released in the here, so in addition to Africa's common plains game and the resident herd of Cape buffalo, you might see species such as Nubian Ibex, Sambar Deer, Rusa Deer, Sable, Roan, Watusi and many others!  There are also white rhino roaming the concession and some black rhino will be introduced in the future.

The outfitter also has a second 4-star lodge just two hours away, where you will hunt your Kudu.  This secondary area is also good for impala and warthog, so If these animals are on your add-on list, you can take these animals if the opportunity presents itself.  And did I mention that that secondary hunting area is over 300,000 acres?  That is 652 sq. miles of hunting area!

THE SPIRAL HORN BOW HUNTING AREAS

The first part of this hunting safari will take place on 55,000 acres in the Eastern Cape of South Africa.  The area features natural wild animals that are adapted to the conditions of the Eastern Cape.  The main lodge is a 2-hour drive from East London.  The terrain consists of a mix of mountains, valleys and savanna.  Once your main species have been taken you will drive 2 hours to an area north of the main lodge to continue hunting for trophy kudu, impala and warthog.

SPIRAL HORN BOW HUNTING METHODS

The first part of this safari will be done by hunting from one of the 7 permanent blinds that have been strategically located on water holes and feeding areas. Some hunting may also occasionally be done from a pop-up blind.  The opportunity to spot and stalk may be available if you are able to shoot accurately up to 50 yards. The bushbuck will most likely be shot by spot and stalk.  The outfitter told me that they can get you the opportunity for a bushbuck, but you need to be able to shoot to be successful. You can be in average shape (2-3 on a 5 scale) to be successful on this safari.

The second part of this hunting safari will take place 2 hours north of Queenstown.  Here you will hunt your kudu in the mountains. Kudu hunting will most likely be by sitting in a blind looking over oranges, as kudu just love oranges!

Eastern Cape Trophy ElandEastern Cape Nyala

The Eastern Cape produces some exceptional trophy quality.  The outfitter’s Eastern Cape Kudu’s average around 46’’ – 47” with some bigger bulls exceeding 50” being taken annually.  The nyala, eland and bushbuck that this concession produces are also very good, with 26” nyala, 36” eland and 13” bushbuck being the minimums you can expect, with many of these spiral horned antelopes being larger.  There are also good populations of many other species in the area and there is a good chance you will return home with some exceptional trophies.

Other animals are available per price sheet.

This bow hunt is available from June – August.

THE 4-STAR SAFARI LODGES

This hunt will be conducted from a 4-Star permanent camp that offers a great view of the surrounding hills. You will enjoy some of South Africa’s fine cuisine followed by gathering around the fire under the southern stars in the evenings.  The large modern rooms feature in-suite bathrooms with showers.  The lodge has permanent electrical power.  Both cell phone service and internet access is available at the lodge for those of you that want to stay in touch while on safari.

Eastern Cape BedroomEastern Cape Lodge Pool

The main lodge can accommodate groups of up to 15 hunters, although groups of 10 or less are preferred.

A second lodge used for kudu, impala and warthog hunting is also rated 4-star and features in-suite bathrooms, cell phone and internet service.  This lodge features 6 bedrooms and can accommodate up to 6 hunters at a time.

Once the animals other than kudu are in the salt, you will relocate 2 hours north to a massive hunting area that also features great hunting.  Here you will hunt the remainder of your plains game package.

THE EASTERN CAPE SAFARI OUTFITTER

This outfitter has lived and hunted in the Eastern Cape region for 8 years.  Hunting is his passion, and although he owns a diverse group of successful businesses in South Africa, he oversees the hunting operations personally.  He is a specialist in providing affordable world class trophy hunting to clients from all over the world.  Many TV shows featuring prominent celebrities have been filmed here. Several articles have been written about his hunts in national publications and you could not be in better hands when hunting in the Eastern Cape than you are with this outfitter.

TAKING AN OBSERVER

Taking an observer on a bow hunt can be an exciting way for the non-hunter to get an introduction to hunting.  Sharing an African hunting experience with your family or friends can create shared memories that will last a lifetime.  For non-hunters, there are other activities to keep them occupied.  In the warmer weather, there is a swimming pool for cooling off and sunbathing.  Other activities include:

  • Watching the lions, tigers, hyenas and wild dogs getting fed
  • A day trip to Addo Elephant Park
  • Spa Treatment
  • A day trip to the beach
  • A day trip shopping for curios
  • Animal photography from a blind
