This 10-day bowhunt for the Spiral Horn Slam is handled by one of the best bowhunting concessions in the country! This outfitter specializes in bowhunting spiral horns and conducts these hunts on his private 17,000-acre concession in Limpopo. If you're a serious bowhunter, this is one trip you should think about!

About the Animals in the Spiral Horn Slam:

The Spiral Horn Slam includes the kudu, eland, bushbuck, and nyala, and they are some of the most iconic and sought-after game animals on the continent. Each of these animals sports beautiful twisted horns and are icons of the African bush.

The greater kudu is often called the “grey ghost” for good reason. They move silently and blend perfectly into the bush, making them tricky to spot despite their large size. Their long spiral horns can make over two full twists and are considered one of the most impressive trophies in Africa. Eland, on the other hand, is the largest of all antelopes and can weigh over 2,000 pounds. They may look heavy and slow, but they’re surprisingly agile and alert. Their horns are shorter and thicker, with a gentle spiral that shows off their age and maturity.

Bushbuck and nyala round out the group with their own unique traits. Bushbucks are small, solitary, and extremely wary, usually hiding in thick cover. A mature ram has heavy, tight curls and a rough, rugged look. Nyala are the most colorful of the bunch, especially the bulls with their dark chocolate coats, vertical white stripes, and tall manes. Their horns spiral tightly and curve outward just right, giving them a distinct and elegant profile.

The Spiral Horn Slam Bowhunting Hunting Area and Terrain:

This 17,000-acre private concession is nestled in South Africa’s Witfontein Rand Mountain Range and is a gem of the bushveld. Family-owned and meticulously managed, the concession offers a mix of rugged hills, rolling plains, and dense cover that supports an incredible variety of wildlife. The scenery is breathtaking, and the bow hunting opportunities here are second to none.

This concession has earned a reputation as one of the premier destinations for high-end kudu hunters. Massive bulls roam the property, and the genetics here consistently produce record-book quality trophies. If giant kudu is at the top of your list, this is one of the best places in South Africa to find them. The habitat is ideal, the population is strong, and the outfitter has a long track record of success. Eland hunting here is equally as exceptional! The concession is home to pure Livingstone Eland, as well as some bulls that have been crossed with Cape Eland, resulting in animals that are noticeably larger than the average Cape Eland bull. The buffalo are also exceptional trophies on this property, with carefully managed herds producing top-tier bulls year after year.

The property is a bowhunter’s dream. There are a dozen blinds strategically positioned across the concession, giving archery hunters the perfect close-up shots on their trophies. This property is one of the best places to come to in Africa if you’re a serious bowhunter.

Spiral Horn Slam Bowhunting Hunting Seasons:

This hunt is available from anytime during the year, but ideal times are March through December. The weather will be cooler, and the antelopes should be spending more time active and grazing.

About the Spiral Horn Slam Archery Outfitter:

For bowhunters heading to South Africa, having the right outfitter and bow-hunting setup makes all the difference between an enjoyable and successful safari and one that is not. This outfitter has years of hands-on experience catering specifically to archery hunters, and they’ve built their entire operation around providing an exceptional, well-rounded bowhunting safari. Whether you're just starting out, or you've spent years chasing game with a bow, they’ll tailor the hunt to your skill level and goals.

At the heart of their success is a focus on truly high-quality trophies and experienced guides. This outfitter’s PHs are experienced bowhunters themselves and will be with you every step of the way, helping you read the wind, judge distance, and make the most of every opportunity that comes your way. The concession itself is equipped with 12 comfortable, well-placed bow blinds, offering excellent concealment and coverage no matter how the wind is shifting that day. These setups give you and your PH flexible options to stay on game without being seen or scented. Every detail has been designed with the bowhunter in mind, making this one of the top destinations in South Africa for a serious bowhunter.

Lodge and Accommodations:

This outfitter uses a well-appointed 3-star lodge that offers both comfort and charm. The lodge includes a cozy indoor dining and lounge space, a traditional lapa for outdoor meals under the stars, a swimming pool, and an outdoor lounge area perfect for relaxing with a drink in hand. With four guest rooms that each accommodate up to two adults and are equipped with private en-suite bathrooms, you’ll have a peaceful place to rest and recharge.

The camp is known for its warm hospitality, excellent meals, and clean, comfortable beds. The staff go above and beyond to make sure every guest feels at home, whether it’s adjusting schedules, preparing special meals, or handling gear. For those needing to stay connected, both cell service and internet are available throughout your stay.

A Typical Day Bowhunting the Spiral Horn Slam:

Your typical day of bowhunting in here will start before the sun rises. You'll meet your PH for a full breakfast at camp, fueling up for a full day in the bush. Since time in the blind is key for success, most hunters opt to take a packed lunch along, allowing them to stay out all day without returning to camp. That will be prepared for you before you depart for the hunt. Depending on the wind, recent animal activity, and your target species, you and your PH will decide what blind is best to use that day, or on more rare occasions, if a spot-and-stalk approach may be the best plan. The flexibility is part of the appeal, and your PH will always help guide the best plan for the day.

One of the biggest advantages here is that the hunting concession surrounds the lodge, so there's no time wasted on long drives, and you can be in your blind within minutes of leaving. From sunrise to sunset, the focus is on maximizing opportunities while minimizing pressure on the animals. As evening sets in and the bush quiets down, you'll return to camp for a well-earned dinner and drinks around the fire. It’s the perfect time to unwind, share stories, and plan the next day’s pursuit.
