Story

Hunted sharps grysbok, spotted hyena, African wild cat, civet and porcupine. Used 284 Win with solids for the small animals and Barnes TTSX for hyena. Leopold VXR 4x12 scope with lighted reticle. Shotgun for African porcupine. The weather was 80' sunny and dry. Got all of the animals listed. This finished my African tiny 10 and SA small cats. Mostly night hunting from blinds and spotlights. Guide was 21 years old but very knowledgeable on all animals hunted. He shot the bush pig (his first) with my rifle.

Additional Info

Be patient. This was my 4th hunt for sharps grysbok and this was the first one seen. They are nocturnal animals but sitting in a blind is fun. This one came out at 2:30 in the afternoon.

Hyena I have hunted 3 times in SA and got this one on bait on the 3rd night, after missing with a borrowed rifle the day before (long story). Shots aren't usually long but off angle, bad rest, poor light and having to shoot quickly make for interesting hunts.

Make sure you really want to spend the time hunting the little stuff or it can be really frustrating. BEST ADVICE I CAN GIVE: Don't skip opportunities on any animal large or small in Africa when you don't have one when encountered, they are all great trophies. Later when you decide to shoot one it can be very expensive.

Recommendation

Both the outfitter and Discount African Hunts did a good job on booking and administering this hunt and I would highly recommend both!
