Frequently Asked Questions

Food

  • Will I eat the animals I shoot while on safari?

Most lodges and tented camps serve a steady diet of game that has been shot by the hunters.  Although steaks, chicken and lamb may be served at times, expect a good amount of excellent game dishes to be served on your African hunting safari.

  • Is it safe to drink the water in Africa when on a hunting safari?

The water that is consumed in hunting lodges in South Africa is safe.  Bottled water is typically available at all times and is recommended. Drinking from other unknown sources is strongly discouraged and typhoid can be a risk when drinking from streams and ponds.

  • What kind of food will I eat on my hunting safari?

The food you will eat on your African hunting safari will be similar to food that is served in the United States and Canada with certain regional variations.  Breakfast can consist of cereals, fruits and a dried biscuit like substance called Rusks.  A local custom is to dip the rusks into coffee before consuming.  Breakfast typically consists of eggs and ham, sausage, eggs, toast and a tomato slice.

Lunch and dinner typically consists of wild game that was harvested by the hunters, chicken and sometimes lamb.  A local delicacy consisting of ox tail or ostrich neck sometimes makes its way onto hunter’s plates. Local South African wines are normally served with dinner.
