AFRICAN EXOTIC PLAINS GAME HUNTS
African exotic plains game hunts are a bit different than your standard plains game hunts. The animals that are targeted on these specialty hunts are either rarer or more difficult to access than the more common plains game animals such as those taken on a typical plains game hunting safari to South Africa or Namibia. The fees to hunt these animals and their trophy fees tend to run higher than your normal everyday plains game prices. In fact on the high end, a specialized safari for an animal such as a Mountain Nyala in Ethiopia can run upwards of $50,000. Those prices don’t seem to deter those hunters who are determined to undertake an exotic plains game hunt from harvesting some of Africa’s most coveted exotic plains game species.
Many times, planning African exotic plains game hunts will require a hunter to travel to countries that are somewhat off of the beaten path. Take the bongo for instance, which many hunters revere as the most beautiful and sought after of the spiral horned antelopes of Africa. Hunting bongo requires a trip to places like the rain forests of Cameroon, the Central African Republic or the Congo – Brazzaville. No matter which of these exotic destinations a hunter chooses to pursue his bongo, he and his hunting party are sure to experience the adventure of a lifetime.
The mountain Nyala is one of the rarest spiral horn trophies and is only found in the mountains of Ethiopia. These beautiful antelopes are one of the nine spiral-horned antelopes of Africa and are a requirement to achieve SCI’s award for taking all of the 9 trophies. The limited amount of annual permits for this species make it a costly but unforgettable hunt. Lord derby eland (also known as Giant Eland) make the list of exotic plains game hunts too. Hunted primarily on the Savannas of Cameroon and the Central African Republic, these magnificent animals are also members of the 9 spiral-horned animals of Africa.
A discussion of African exotic plains game hunts would not be complete without mentioning the roan and sable antelopes. In addition to being somewhat widely dispersed throughout southern and central Africa, both of these animals have been introduced onto game ranches in South Africa and are now readily available for the average plains game hunter taking a trip to South Africa. Kob, korrigum, lechwe, tessebe and many others are also available when taking exotic plains game hunts in Africa..

"I was hunting with my son and my batchmate from school. We had an experience of a life time and will definitely repeat the experience again. The weather was perfect. We shot Kudu / Zebra / Wildebeest / Impala / Red Hartebeest / Blesbuck / a day of bird shooting."
"We took back memories for a life time and will surly recommend the experience to other hunters."
"In August 2014 I took a lioness hunt with Discount African Hunts in the Northwest Province of South Africa. The PH's worked hard to customize the hunt for me as I wanted a challenging stalk ending with taking the lioness at close range by an open sighted double rifle. They exceeded my expectations as 12 miles of tracking ended with me shooting the highly agitated lioness at a distance of 25 yards with a couple of rounds of 450 NE".
"I highly recommend a lioness hunt with Discount African Hunts."
"I would Highly recommend my PH and Discount African Hunts. John got me a great deal with a top of the line outfitter. They both went out of their way to make sure my hunt and everything else about it was great."
