Dangerous Game Hunting Safaris in Cameroon

Dangerous game hunts in Cameroon are not the primary category of hunting that hunters traveling to Cameroon seek out.   Many hunters come for the Bongo, Lord Derby Eland and other exotic antelopes and duikers that Cameroon offers.  Still, Cameroon offers big game opportunities for hunters that are willing to seek them out.  Dangerous game hunting safaris in Cameroon occur in three primary hunting areas.  Southern Cameroon consists of rain forest.  Northern Cameroon is primarily savanna.  Central Cameroon is a transition area, and therefore is a mix of habitats.  Central Cameroon is comprised of open areas that are not assigned to an particular outfitter.  Cameroon is one of the few African countries that allows self-guided safaris.  This makes hunting in Central Cameroon a destination for those seeking the ultimate Cameroon hunting challenge, a self-guided hunt.  Hunting is difficult in this area and should only be undertaken by highly experienced in-shape hunters that speak French.

Southern Cameroon’s rain forest offers the highest populations of Bongo in Africa.  Cameroon offers some of the only pygmy elephant hunting in Africa today.   The ivory of these elephants is sometimes referred to as "Ÿrose Ivory”, due to pigments and stains on and within the ivory.  Pigmy elephant hunting is not for the faint hearted, as the thick bush requires hunters to stalk within extremely close distances to assess the ivory.  Dangerous game hunts in Cameroon's rain forest also feature dwarf forest buffalo and leopard.  Leopards in the rainforest of Cameroon grow to enormous sizes.

Dangerous game hunts in Northern Cameroon offer lion, elephant and western savanna buffalo.  Lion hunting in Cameroon is hit-and-miss.  Only about a dozen lions are taken each year and these lions are known to be hard to bait.  These savanna elephants do not carry large ivory and one’s expectations should not be to harvest an elephant with ivory weights of much over 30 pounds.  Harvesting a West African Savanna buffalo will require a hunter to do a lot of walking.  For those who are hunting a good concession and are willing to a lot of walking, success rates should run close to 100%.  Dangerous game hunts in Cameroon are not easy, but can be very rewarding to those willing to put in the effort.  Dangerous game hunting safaris in Cameroon offer both exotic species and dangerous game which combine to offer the safari of a lifetime!

"I booked my crocodile hunt in Mozambique through Discount African Hunts. The hunt was great and my wife and I really enjoyed the service provided by the outfitter. Everything was done very professionally and the outfitter and his group went out of their way to provide us with a wonderful experience and a great time.

If we ever go back to Africa, I am sure that we will contact Discount African Hunts to set up another hunt with this outfitter."

"I spent weeks visiting websites for outfitters in Namibia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe, comparing pre-made packages and regular fees. In the end, for a 7-day, six animal hunt with my son as an observer/hunter, John Martins had the best price."
